Q: Are you Government Funded?

A: No. We are a Full Profit Social Business with strong social responsibility values.

Q: Can I wash my Afri Bag?

A: Because your Afri Bag has a leather component it would be best to dry clean your bag. However, you are able to hand-wash the fabric and let it dry naturally.

For the Leather: Most dirt and stains can be wiped away with warm lightly soaped water. Use a good leather wax or dubbin to buff up and polish the leather.

Q: What Leather is used on my Afri Bag?

A: The leather is of bovine origin. The brown leather is buffed and the black unbuffed.

Q: Can you make me a rug with my own design?

A: We have done “special orders” in the past. We weave on looms which limits intricate design work which are normally woven on Tapestry or Frame looms.

Q: If you make a special carpet for me – what is your price?

A We charge R1330.00 per sq.m (To work out the price take the length and multiply it by the width – this will give you the sq.m which you then x by R1330.00).

Q: How long does it take to weave a rug?

A: Hand-weaving is time consuming and labour intensive. Our weavers work 7 hours a day. For a width of 1.20m or 1.50m – the weaver manages about 30 cm per day.

Q: How do I clean my Rug?

A: Its always better to hand wash rugs. However, small rugs can be put in the washing machine on a wool cycle – but these can come out creased.

Best method is to lay rug outside on the lawn or patio and with a hose pipe, wet the rug thoroughly. Using a bar of pure soap lather the rug. Do not use a bristle brush but rather invert a saucer, form a suction that will remove the grit and dirt. Rinse thoroughly using the hose pipe – remember to clean the fringes too.

To dry your rug, leave it on the ground until the excess water has run off before lifting it onto the garden furniture or over the top of the windy drier. The rug should be dry within a day or day and a half.

Remember too much direct sun can fade the colours.
